This is explained by differences in medication cost used and prevalence of the criterion in each study population, 3% in this study vs. 17% for Cahir et al 18 Several studies have investigated the prevalence of PIP amongst older adults, but more specifically, they have reported the prevalence of different instances of PIP based on different criteria, such as the STOPP/START criteria and PROMPT criteria when investigating middle-aged adults; a common finding being that duplicate drug classes is a highly prevalent PIP criterion in both age groups 15,[32][33][34] and likely to be a factor contributing to increasing ADE rates and hospital admissions related to PIP. Although it is important to note middleaged adults remains an understudied population; therefore, further studies analysing prevalence are needed to cement this trend with this group.…”
