Prevalence and Disability-Adjusted Life Year Rates of Asthma in China: Findings from the GBD Study 2019 of the G20

Abstract: Background: The credible materials about the burden of asthma in China when compared to other countries in the group of twenty (G20) remain unavailable. Objectives and design: Following the popular analysis strategy used in the Global Burden of Disease Study, the age-, sex-, country-specific prevalence, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) of asthma in China were analyzed. “…The G20 is an international economic cooperation forum composed of 20 developed and developing countries. Similar to people in other countries around the world, the burden of diseases in G20 countries is inseparable from their specific economic circumstances and health conditions [ 27 , 28 ]. It is estimated that 71% of the world’s elderly live in G20 countries, and most G20 member countries have experienced the high level of mortality attributed to non-communicable diseases including EOCRC.…”

“…Based on currently commercially available allergenic reagents (ThermoFisher, USA), we propose a strategy to form an allergen detection panel in Guangzhou using 4–5 common allergens. Among the allergens with positive rates > 10%, owing to co-sensitization between D. farinae and D. pteronyssinus; milk and egg whites; B. germanica , C. pagurus , and P. monodon , we can select among them to avoid superfluous detection 16 . Accordingly, we recommend using D. farinae , milk, B. germanica , and A. alternata as the general screening panel in this region, which can detect > 93% of potential allergic population.…”

“…According to the results of 2019 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study, a total of 0.46 million deaths and 21.5 million disability adjusted life years (DALY) could be attributed to asthma globally [2]. In China, asthma ranked the 8 th out of the DALYs' burden of 369 diseases [3]. Moreover, the prevalence of asthma in China was 4.2%, which represents 45.7 million Chinese suffering from asthma [4].…”
