Prevalence and factors associated with postpartum use of long-acting reversible contraception in Bukombe District, Geita Region, Tanzania: a community- based study

Abstract: Background Globally, approximately half of all pregnancies occur before 24 months after child birth. “…The consistency of these findings could be explained by the study's population characteristics, as the majority of adolescent girls and young women chose short contraceptive methods over the LARCs . However, the findings of this study are higher than other studies in Tanzania [ 26 ], North Ethiopia [ 27 ] and Guatemala [ 28 ]. It is possible that the use of LARCs in the study group has only lately risen.…”

“…In this study, women with a good knowledge of long-acting reversible contraceptive methods were signi cantly associated with the use of long-acting reversible contraceptives. Many studies show that well-advised, informed women have a good knowledge of long-acting reversible contraceptive methods and choose long-acting reversible contraceptive methods [15,[27][28][29][30]. The possible reason could be that women who have su cient information about the effectiveness of long-acting reversible contraceptive methods to prevent unwanted pregnancy, side effects and health risks of long-acting reversible contraceptive methods prefer to use long-acting reversible contraceptive methods.…”
