“…We previously demonstrated that chronic T. cruzi H1 infection in both inbred BALB/c and outbred ICR mice induced significant endpoint cardiac inflammation and fibrosis, similar to the pathology observed in cardiac tissue from human cases of CD 43 , 104 106 . We have also demonstrated that chronic T. cruzi H1 infection of female BALB/c mice significantly increased cardiac strain as measured on echocardiography and magnetic resonance imaging, similar to human cases of CD 43 , 107 . Further, in this model, we observed significant alterations of cardiac small molecules, including purines, acylcarnitines and glycerophosphocholines, that were associated with cardiac fibrosis and inflammation, similar to perturbations observed in other mouse models of chronic infection and human cases of end-stage heart failure due to CCC 30 , 31 , 108 , 109 .…”

“…mas com fração de ejeção ainda normal, o STE já se mostrava alterado. 9 Uma metanálise recente, que abrangeu diversos estudos sobre o valor do STE na doença de Chagas com 1222 participantes, revelou que os valores de STE foram significativamente piores em pacientes com cardiomiopatia chagásica quando comparados àqueles com a forma indeterminada. No entanto, não foi observada uma diferença significativa quando foram comparados indivíduos com a forma indeterminada e controles normais sem doença de Chagas.…”

“…The study also highlighted the remarkable finding that, in the subgroup with electrocardiographic alterations, but with an ejection fraction that was still normal, STE was already altered. 9 A recent meta-analysis, which included several studies on the value of STE in Chagas disease with 1,222 participants, revealed that STE values were significantly worse in patients with Chagas cardiomyopathy when compared to those with the indeterminate form. However, no significant difference was observed when comparing individuals with the indeterminate form and normal controls without Chagas disease.…”
