Prevalence and Genotype Diversity of Anal HPV Infection Among Hiv-Infected Women in Belem, Para, North of Brazil

“…A high prevalence of HBV co-infection among HIV-1 carriers was observed in the state of Piauí, with the identification of genotypes A, F and D [ 51 ] and a low prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in Belém, Pará [ 52 ]. HPV was detected in small proportion (26.8%), with the predominance of types of low oncogenic risk and a positive correlation with the decrease in the amount of CD4 + T lymphocytes in HIV-1 patients in Belém, Pará [ 53 ], but anti- C. trachomatis and anti- C. pneumoniae antibodies [ 54 ] and syphilis [ 55 ] were detected at high levels of infection. The investigations presented demonstrate the spread of other STIs among a population group who should be more cautious and oriented to avoid infections which can further compromise their immunological response and boost the inflammatory damage.…”
