“…However, it is the low intentional use of PFASs in food packaging ($2% of the total food packaging) that leads to the largest releases of PFASs, and highlights hotspots/blindspots for the sound management of food packaging. 95,96 These results, specically the low percentage ($2%) of food packaging with intentionally added PFASs, lend support to regulatory initiatives to eliminate the use of PFASs in food packaging in seven U.S. states, 67 the voluntary agreement brokered between the food packaging industry and the U.S. FDA to restrict which PFAS can be used in food packaging, 37 and initiatives among several European countries to restrict nonessential uses of PFAS.
