“…Our results concur with an Italian population-based study, in which hypertension (7.1%) was also frequent [33], and with a Spanish study that showed high associated morbidity in adults with severe AD, especially hypertension (37.6%) [3]. Frequency of hypertension among our adult AD patients (10.2%) was lower than the prevalence reported among adult individuals from the general population in Brazil, in order of 30.5% to 52.5% [34,35]; however, adult patients with AD in the present study were younger (mean age 24.7 years-old) than those included in studies of hypertension in the general Brazilian population (median age of 41 and mean age of 52 years-old) [34,35]. A systematic review of 40 studies comprising over 120,000 individuals (mostly ≥18 years old) estimated that hypertension prevalence in Brazil is 28.7% (95% confidence interval, 26.2-31.4) [36].…”

“…Globally, hypertension (HTN) is the main modifiable risk factor for CVD with a population attributable risk of 32.5% (42.7% for coronary heart disease, 38.9% for stroke, and 21.9% for heart failure) 2 . Currently, HTN is common in LMIC where the percentages of awareness, treatment, and control of the disease are very low, 3 particularly in Latin America 4 . Few population studies on HTN prevalence have been carried out in Ecuador, and however, it is not known the rates of awareness, treatment, and control of HTA 5 .…”
