“…This may be due to that study having been conducted one month after the declaration of a state of emergency in the United States for COVID-19, when the epidemic was still progressing at a high level, whereas our study was conducted when the epidemic was largely under control. We observed that the prevalence of PTSD symptoms in college students was lower than the yields of studies performed during the COVID-19 outbreak, while anxiety and depressive symptoms were in line with or higher than them [ 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 ]. Prior research identified a higher prevalence of mental health symptoms reported by students than the overall population due to multiple concerns about academic delays, financial support, reduced social relationships, etc.…”

“…In a study conducted with Chinese university students, women were found to have higher anxiety levels in the early and middle stages of the pandemic (X. Wang & Liu, 2022). Similarly, another study touched upon the possibility that women are psychologically more vulnerable than men, and it was reported that women experienced higher levels of fear, stress, anxiety, and depression during the Covid‐19 outbreak (Broche‐Pérez et al, 2022).…”

“…Studies show that individuals who stay in isolated environments and have a fear of contagion experience extreme anxiety (Brooks et al, 2020). Everyone in society is significantly affected by stress and anxiety (Wang & Liu, 2022). The anxiety increased in university students who could not communicate with their environment due to quarantine and isolation measures, whose perceived social support decreased, who felt that they were under pressure, and who were afraid of being affected by infection (Chen et al, 2020; Mamun et al, 2021).…”
