Abstract: Group A -hemolytic streptococcus is the most frequently isolated pathogen in acute pharyngitis and pharingotonsilits Cases in school -aged children. Resulting in dangerous complications such as rheumatic fever and glomerulonephritis, diagnosis and treatment of the disease would be of great importance. “…The healthy carriers of GAS are the sources of a bacterial dissemination and they are able to communicate the disease and even lead to severe epidemics [5]. According to different studies, GAS is seen more in the pharynges of children as compared to that in adults [5]. In the present study, Beta Haemolytic Streptococci (BHS) were isolated from 44 (2.2%) children, which was less than those which were isolated in other studies [3,[6][7][8].…”

“…There have been reports of emerging antimicrobial drug resistant strains among the βhemolytic streptococci (BHS). Most alarming would be an increase in resistance to the older, most effective and less expensive antibiotics, such as penicillin [11][12][13]. Streptococci can be transmitted from person to person via aerosols after sneezing or coughing, and also via fomites.…”

“…GAS has not been developed resistance to any of the penicillin's over the last decades. Nowadays, it is starting to appear antimicrobial drug resistant strain from asymptomatic children (13) including penicillin (6). However, in Ethiopia, antimicrobial resistance pattern to the GAS isolated from throat/phyeranax were not adequately explicated.…”
