Abstract: BackgroundPsychiatric comorbidities are communal among patients with schizophrenia. A significant percentage of patients with schizophrenia show depressive symptoms during the development of their illness. “…In this study CDSS was higher in those who did not go out on passes, those with positive family history of bipolar and those with more comorbid systemic illness. These results are similar to El-Bahy and Mohamed 13 which suggest that patients with schizophrenia who have not been diagnosed with depression frequently have 30% clinical symptoms of depression. In addition, Subodh and Grover 14 found that one-fifth of their patients with schizophrenia had noteworthy depression that was associated with a higher level of disability in interpersonal activities, and poorer quality of life compared to schizophrenia patients without significant depression.…”

“…Arab patients with mental illness have negative attitudes toward seeking professional help and often somatize their psychiatric symptoms to avoid the stigma associated with mental illness (Al-Krenawi, Graham, Dean, & Eltaiba, 2004; Rayan & Ahmad, 2016). Furthermore, the depressive symptoms and the limited professional support services provided for Arab patients with schizophrenia might be negatively associated with QOL among these patients (El-Bahy & Mohamed, 2013). After putting together these evidences, there is a need to assess specific factors associated with QOL among Arab patients with schizophrenia, which may be amenable to future interventions, and thereby improving their QOL.…”
