We evaluated H. pylori status among outpatients with uninvestigated dyspepsia in Kuwait.MethodsA prospectively collected database for 1035 patients who had undergone 13C-urea breath tests (UBT) for various indications was reviewed for the period from October 2007 to July 2009. “…There are different reports about the prevalence rate of this infection between countries, but interestingly, the results of this study (51.2%) which is compatible to the local study done in Hawler, Kurdistan by Bashdar M. “…When culture was used as a gold standard, the sensitivities and the specificities of serological tests were 80-95% and 80-95% respectively [15] and with histology as a gold standard the sensitivities were ranging from 76% to 84% and the specificities were ranging from 79% to 90% [35].The overall performance of serology against predefined gold standard in our study was not satisfactory. It differs from previous study conducted on 45 Bangladeshi patients where the sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values were 100%, 13.6%, 54.8% and 100% for serological test against culture [25]. One possible explanation is the type of antigen used in the test kits was not similar.…”
