Prevalence of non‐alcoholic fatty liver and liver fibrosis in patients with moderate–severe psoriasis: A cross‐sectional cohort study

Abstract: Background/Objectives: Several studies havereported that non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is more frequent in patients with psoriasis, but few have reviewed the presence of liver fibrosis in those patients. When analyzing specific psoriasis treatments, only acitretin appeared to be associated with NAFLD; however, other studies have not detected any relationship 25,31,32 .…”

“…Psoriasis is an immune-mediated, chronic inflammatory skin disease of complex patomechanism. Several studies have shown that psoriasis is associated with systemic disorders specially metabolic syndrome (MS), which is defined as a constellation of insulin resistance, obesity, hyperlipidemia and hypertension [1,2] Psoriatic patients are also predisposed to other comorbidities like: inflammatory bowel diseases, cardiovascular diseases and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) [3][4][5]. It has been established that the release of inflammatory molecules and cytokines play an important role in metabolic disturbances and atherosclerosis in the course of psoriasis [6].…”
