Prevention as intervention

Abstract: Prevention as intervention is identified as a middle-range theory consistent with the Neuman systems model. Through an examination of anxiety research using Neuman's theory, prevention as intervention is examined for clarity, simplicity, generality, accessibility and importance. Conceptual clarity is in need of improvement to proceed with theory testing research. Until such concepts as the flexible and normal lines of defence, created environment, and the inter-relatedness of core system variables are further … Show more

“…Prewarming patients is a primary prevention intervention in relation to the Neuman Systems Model. Primary prevention is the intervention used when the stressor has not penetrated the normal line of defense and has not produced symptoms 19 . “…Numerous papers and researches have indicated the validity of the model. Clients' stability and providing preventive interventions led to the generation of several middle theories derived from this theory; clarity and simplicity of this model made it generalized and extended (19). From the results of this systematic review on groups affected by Neuman systematic theory, it can be concluded that Betty Neuman model is one of the most applicable models for controlling stressful conditions in therapeutic units, supporting nurses, improving patients' care, increasing ability, and decreasing families' stress.…”

“…Using secondary, deductive content analysis, this study analysed data collected in a mixed-methods study supported by Switzerland's National Research Programmes [23]. The primary study had documented the state of medication management practices among polymedicated, home-dwelling older adults after hospital discharge and had made proposals to prevent MRPs and support collaborative medication management [23,24]. Because the nature of the data collected had revealed the existence of difficulties (stressors) and response patterns (reconstitution strategies), the research team developed a secondary analysis guided by the NSM.…”
