“…Withdrawal of 1,25-(OH) 2 D after EAE induction resulted in a resumption of clinical signs (Cantorna et al, 1996). The effect of 1,25-(OH) 2 D can be potentiated by cyclosporine, sirolimus (Rapamycin, RAP), and calcium (Branisteanu et al, 1995(Branisteanu et al, , 1997Cantorna et al, 1999). In EAE in mice, calcium was required in addition to 1,25-(OH) 2 D to prevent the appearance of this disease, and the higher the calcium intake the lower the 1,25-(OH) 2 D dose needed (Cantorna et al, 1999).…”
