Prevention of Unplanned Perioperative Hypothermia

Abstract: Hypothermia is one of the most common complications experienced by surgical patients. Better postoperative patient outcomes are achieved when normothermia is maintained. Perioperative nurses should understand how to maintain normothermia, the causes of hypothermia, and adverse patient outcomes that result from hypothermia. Nursing interventions to help prevent hypothermia can be implemented during each phase of perioperative care.

“…Although the heating fluid contributes to the prevention of hypothermia (15,20) , only the crystalloid (saline solution, Ringer lactate and glucose solution) is heated, that is, the starch was administered at room temperature. Therefore, the result found may be associated with the use of thermal mattress.…”

“…Perioperatif bakım veren anestezi ekibi ve hemşireler perioperatif dönemde hastanın normal vücut sıcaklığını devam ettirmek için aktif ve pasif ısıtma yöntemlerini kullanarak hipotermi gelişimini azaltabilir. Sıcaklık kontrolünün sağlanması ve sürdürülmesi fiziksel bakım ve konforla ilgili olması nedeniyle anestezi ekibi ve hemşirelere büyük sorumluluk düşmektedir 3,8,13 . Tüm bunlardan yola çıkılarak bu araştırmada ortopedi hastalarında oluşan hipotermi sorununa açıklık getirmek, bu konuya dikkat çekmek ve olası koruma önlemlerini geliştirmeye ışık tutmak amaçlanmıştır.…”
