Prevotella hominis sp. nov., isolated from human faeces

Abstract: A strictly anaerobic predominant bacterium, designated as strain gm001T, was isolated from a freshly voided faecal sample collected from a healthy Taiwanese adult. Cells were Gram-stain-negative rods, non-motile and non-spore-forming. Strain gm001T was identified as a member of the genus Prevotella , and a comparison of 16S rRNA and hsp60 gene sequences revealed sequence similarities of 98.5 and 93.3 %, respectively, demonst… Show more

“…In the phylogeny built for these 165 SGBs (see STAR Methods ), we identified ScC as the minimal monophyletic subtree that comprised all reference genomes labeled as S. copri in the NCBI GenBank database 30 and resulted to be clearly distinct from other species ( Figure S1 ). The expanded ScC 20 , 21 comprised 9 additional species-level clades in addition to the four clades previously described (clades A–D), 20 revealing a total of 13 distinct species (including the recently described species Segatella hominis , formerly Prevotella hominis , 40 as clade E; Figure 1 B).…”

“…Using the non-parametric Wilcoxon test it is determined that the species that generates the greatest signi cant differences between all levels of feeding is also Prevotella hominis (Liou et al 2020). Being able to obtain this species through the two different methods used re ects robustness in this study.…”

“…Prevotella was higher in the HGC, which is a human gut bacterium, and has been previously isolated from human feces [ 56 ]. The HGC is a popular spa area in Taiwan [ 57 ]; thus, anthropogenic interventions in the creek may be the key reason for the abundance of Prevotella . In addition, Prevotella was less tolerant to dissolved oxygen content [ 58 ].…”
