Pricing and shelf space allocation are two main operational decisions in retailing industry. This study simultaneously optimizes these two decisions in a supply chain with two manufacturers and one retailer under uncertainty of demand and price sensitivity parameters. Two manufacturers have different conditions in terms of parameters affecting demand and production. A robust optimization model and an exact solution approach are developed to find the optimal solution. The results show that price sensitivity, market potential and production costs can have a synergistic effect on optimal values. Moreover, the market potential can be relied on in managerial decisions as it has significantly positive impact on profitability. This parameter is found to be the most important tool for securing profitability of supply chain members.

In the industrial world of today, a growing need for the advancement and improvement of the organizations' operations is felt. Learning regarded as an inherent property is time-dependent and comes with experience. In view of this, the present study considers the process of learning for an imperfect production system in order to contribute to reducing the setup cost with the level of maturity gained, hence bringing positive results for organizations. Due to machine disturbances/malfunctions, defectives were manufactured with a known probability density function. To satisfy the demand for good products only, the manufacturer invested in a two-way inspection process with multiple screening constraints. The rst inspection misclassi ed some of the items and delivered inaccuracies called Type-I and Type-II errors. The loss resulting from inspection at the rst stage was e ciently managed through the second inspection, which was presumed to be error-free. The study mutually optimized the production backordering quantities in order to maximize the expected total pro t per unit time. Numerical analysis and detailed sensitivity analysis were carried out to validate the hypothesis and further cater for some valuable implications.

A Sustainable Production Recovery Model with Responsiveness in Demand and Quality Consideration during COVID-19 Crisis

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in disruption of many supply chains, majorly after the announcement of lockdown in numerous countries as a precaution for the novel coronavirus transmission. The decisions regarding inventory policies are greatly affected by the production rates and volumes, hence during this pandemic, flexibility in production rates and volumes becomes a necessity to handle demand uncertainties. Another big challenge that comes upfront is about rebuilding trust cum awareness in consumers about safe production, services, home deliveries through constant investment in advertisements. As quality and safety becomes the need of the hour, the manufacturers cannot afford any chance to compromise with supreme quality standards. Hence, the paper employs two stage rigorous inspection practices for the imperfect products that arise from the production process, the first inspection process being error prone (delivering Type-I and Type-II errors) while the second one being perfect. The developed model maximizes the manufacturer's total profit by optimizing the investment in service and advertisement with flexible production rate. A numerical example and comprehensive sensitivity analysis are illustrated to support the pragmatism of the model.
