Primary Axillary Porocarcinoma: A Rare Cutaneous Tumour

Abstract: Eccrine porocarcinoma, a rare cutaneous malignant tumour accounts for a fraction of sweat gland tumours. This tumour is found to originate from the intraepithelial parts of the sweat glands. It commonly involves the lower extremities in elderly patients and carries an aggressive behaviour. Cutaneous and visceral metastasis can occur and hence prompt treatment is mandatory. Surgical excision is the mainstay of treatment modality. We hereby present a case of eccrine porocarcinoma in a 50-year-old male in the rig… Show more

“…Some etiological factors for EPC are radiotherapy, ultraviolet radiation and immunosuppression with unknown pathogenesis. 3 None of these risk factors were present in our case. It is postulated that the upper portion of the dermal eccrine duct could have a role in the oncogenesis.…”

“…The most common sites are lower extremities (50%), trunk (24%) head and neck (18%), upper extremities (2%) and hands (3%). 3 Microscopically the tumor frequently presents with both intraepidermal and dermal invasion and is capable of forming satellite lesions and lymphatic involvement. Porocarcinoma may present as a dome-shaped papule, plaque or nodule growing over weeks to months.…”

“…The tumor commonly presents as a mass/nodule (71.2 %); other features include ulcer, plaque, wart, papule, and wart [7] . Porocarcinoma is difficult to diagnose, often misdiagnosed as granuloma, squamous cell carcinoma, and viral warts [2] , [14] . Distant and local regional spread is found in less than one-third of the cases [7] .…”

“…Porocarcinoma are rare and heterogenous adnexal tumors of the dermis [1] . They originate from epithelial cells of eccrine glands, intra epidermal and dermal eccrine ducts [2] , [3] . Initially described as benign adenomatous poroma and confused with basal cell carcinoma until 1969, when it was termed porocarcinoma [4] .…”
