Primary clear cell carcinoma of the rete testis: 1st report

Abstract: SUMMARYPrimary tumours of the rete testis, either benign or malignant, are very rare. Such lesions require careful scrutiny including immunohistochemical analysis to exclude malignant lesions such as mesothelioma or papillary serous carcinoma. To the best of our knowledge this is the first report of a primary clear cell carcinoma of the rete testis. The possibility of a primary renal cell carcinoma or other primary site with metastatic spread to rete testis was excluded by thorough clinical and radiological wo… Show more

“…Clear cell variants exist for many other carcinomas in the body, but are extremely rare. Case reports have documented clear cell variants of carcinomas of the bladder , the skin , the testis , the thyroid , and the salivary glands . Owing to the rarity of these clear cell variants, their molecular and genomic landscapes are not well characterized.…”

“…Ovarian-like epithelial tumors of the testis are extremely rare [ 1 – 5 ]. All types of epithelial tumors, serous, mucinous, seromucinous, and clear cell tumors, have been reported in the testis [ 6 8 ]. The most frequently reported types are serous borderline tumors, which share histological and immunohistological similarities with their ovarian counterpart.…”

“…Ovarian Mullerian-like epithelial tumors of the testis are exceedingly rare tumors with about 50 cases described in the literature [ 1 – 5 ]. Like in the ovarian counterpart, serous, mucinous, clear cell, and seromucinous carcinomas have been previously reported [ 6 8 ]. The mutational molecular profile of these tumors is poorly understood with only 5 previous cases well documented.…”
