“…We found in our analysis the annual incidence of pediatric foregut and small bowel solid tumors to be approximately 0.027 cases per million, which is lower than recently described [3,9]. There was approximately equal distribution of male and female patients in our study, which is in contrast to past studies, some of which have described males to have increased risk for developing upper GI malignancies, while others found females to be at higher risk [3,10]. The majority of our patients were greater than 10 y of age, with 15-to 19-y-olds comprising the largest group.…”

“…It is important to mention that our analyses included only solid tumors of the GI tract, and not lymphomas or other tumors, which, if included, would have constituted a large percentage of GI tract malignancies, as described in other studies [1,10,12,13]. In addition, analyses show that sarcomas prior to and after the year 2000 have different subset histologies.…”

“…T-cell lymphomas of the gastrointestinal tract are rare and most of the reported cases originated in the small intestine [1,3]. The majority of gastrointestinal tumors are non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, however studies on gastric lymphomas in childhood are limited to isolated case reports and most of these cases are Burkitt lymphoma and are associated with Helicobacter pylori infection [4]. Gastric perforation is a rare entity in childhood.…”

“…Over a period of 54 years, Curtis et al (2008) reported 21 infants and children with primary gastric tumors, 4 of them only had gastric teratoma. Gastric teratomas are very rare, accounting for less than 1% of all teratomas in infants and children (Grosfeld et al, 1976).…”

“…In grade 1, the immature neuroectodermal tissue is confined to one site in a slide, whereas in grades 2 and 3, the immature tissue is found in less than 4 and more than 4 fields per slide, respectively. Most of the gastric teratomas are con-sidered to be benign but there are reports of malignant gastric teratoma and malignant gastric teratomas have also been reported (Gupta et al, 2000;Sharma et al, 1994;Matias and Huang, 1973;Gore and Fernbach, 2002;Bourke et al, 1997;Balik et al, 1990;Curtis et al, 2008, Saha, 2010. The recommended therapy for gastric teratomas is total surgical excision.…”
