Primary glomerular diseases in Brazil (1979 – 1999): is the frequency of focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis increasing?

“…8,25 MPGN was also found to decrease significantly (9.30% in period 1 versus 0.72% in period 4) (p < 0.001), which had been reported since 1985, [14][15][16][17]20,28 because of the improvement in standards of living and public health, as well as the early effective treatment of infections. Changing trend of FSGS that was reported to increase in other countries, 11,13,14,[18][19][20][21]23 was controversial in our study, for the proportion of FSGS increased from 1.74% in period 1 and 1.55% in period 2 to 5.57% in period 3 (p < 0.05, p < 0.001, respectively) and then decreased to 3.09% in period 4 (p < 0.001).
