Primary osteosarcoma of the kidney

Abstract: Osteosarcoma arising in the kidney is a bona fide entity. A case is reported and described in clinical and pathological detail. Characteristic changes include a palpable stony hard renal mass associated with radiographic demonstration of sunburst calcification in the kidney. The case presented is unique in that virtually the entire specimen was composed of bone.

“…The presence of osteoid/bone matrix in both examples of renal SEF presented herein raises the differential diagnosis of renal osteosarcoma. Renal osteosarcoma is rare 44, 45 , and it is possible that some of the cases reported could represent incompletely-sampled sarcomatoid carcinomas. Of note, like the cases of renal SEF reported herein, cases of primary renal osteosarcoma have tended to present at advanced stage.…”

“…Il semble que la radiothérapie soit plus efficace dans les ostéosar-comes extra-squelettiques que dans les atteintes squelettiques. La chimiothérapie utilisée fait appel aux mêmes médicaments que ceux utilisés dans les ostéosarcomes des os [13][14][15][16] .…”

“…Extraskeletal osteosarcoma is a rare entity and case descriptions can be found throughout the literature mostly in the limbs and limb girdles 3. Even fewer are reports of parenchymal osteosarcoma, but such cases have been documented in thyroid, kidney, gallbladder, breast, mesentery, liver, and colon 410…”
