Primary Ovarian Serous Adenocarcinoma with Ipsilateral Axillary Lymph Node Metastasis: A Case Report

Abstract: Axillary lymph node metastasis from primary ovarian cancer is rare. Here, we reporting a unique case of 45 years old who presented with axillary lymph node metastasis which was thought from breast carcinoma but it turned out to be due to ovarian serous adenocarcinoma confirmed by histopathology & immunohistochemistry. Staging laparotomy (IIIc) with hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was done. Post-operatively, the patient was given adjuvant chemotherapy. No local or systemic recurrence was noted… Show more

“…A CR has rarely been reported in cases of ovarian cancer with metastatic lymph nodes. A review of the literature on ovarian cancer with distant metastatic lymph nodes, including supra-clavicular (5,13,14), axillary (6,(15)(16)(17)(18)(19)(20)(21)(22), and inguinal (8,23) lymph node metastasis, is shown in Table II. These reports all emphasized how rare these diseases were, and how to correctly diagnose and provide them with appropriate systemic treatment.…”

“…Thirteen cases manifested the axillary lymph node metastasis as an initial presentation of the disease, either as the first symptom that led to the diagnosis or as lymph node enlargement through image study during the work-up for an ovarian mass [6,7,9,14,15,17,18,20,[22][23][24]. Twelve cases exhibited lymph node metastasis as a recurrence of a previously treated ovarian carcinoma [8,[10][11][12][13]16,19,21,23,25,26].…”

“…Among the ovarian cancers, serous cystadenocarcinoma is the most common one with metastasis to breast [1]. However, axillary lymph node involvement is a very rare event in the case of breast metastasis from ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma [6,7].…”
