Primary pleural epithelioid hemangioendothelioma

Abstract: Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a rare vascular tumor exceptionally involving the pleura with less than 30 cases reported in literature. We herein describe another case of pleural EHE in a 79-year-old man with medical history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and high blood pressure. He presented rightsided pleural effusion. Computerized tomography revealed multifocal pleural thickening and effusion. Pleural biopsy was performed. Microscopically, the tumor showed a biphasic pattern with cords … Show more

Intracorneal microabscesses, oedematous papillary dermis, a band- like infiltrate of predominantly neutrophils and histiocytoid cells with nuclear debris in the superficial dermis 4-day course of 1 g methylprednisolone once a day 4 days Recovery Carmen Cantisani et al 40 81 F Erythematous plaques on the trunk, back and abdomen Neutrophil count (>6000 cells/µL) and elevated CRP A dense neutrophilic infiltrate Systemic steroid therapy Unknown Recovery Sarra Ben Rejeb et al 41 68 Unknown Painful erythema or erythema on the palm, purple nodules and nodules Neutrophilia with 68.7% neutrophils The infiltration of neutrophils dominates the superficial and middle dermis and extends around the blood vessels. High-dose local corticosteroid treatment.…”

Additionally, we added our case of pleural EHE to this database, resulting in a total of 50 primary cases of pleural EHE.…”

“…Cases of pulmonary EHE with metastasis to the pleura and cases in which the histologic diagnosis was epithelioid angiosarcoma were excluded; however, distinguishing the tumors' primary site in pleural and lung involvement was not possible. Therefore, extracting the exact number of cases in the literature review is not possible 1‐35 . Since there was no available national or international database regarding EHE cases, we created a database based on all available reports in the literature.…”
