“…Increased numbers of newly diagnosed MCD were recently reported for 2021 in a Dutch observational cohort. 23 However, that cohort-based study could not calculate true population-based incidence, and only 5 of 11 cases had received any SARS-CoV-2 vaccine before presentation, which makes a true association with vaccination questionable. In our study, the incidence of MCD during the vaccination campaign did not cross the upper boundary of the 95% credible interval for the predicted incidence, and the risk J o u r n a l P r e -p r o o f ratio for the development of MCD in vaccinated vs. unvaccinated persons was not significantly different from one.…”

“…Typical clinical and pathologic MCD features were confirmed in our case, which may be due to the potent immune response of the COVID-19 vaccine. Timmermans et al also reported that biopsy-proven primary podocytopathies were significantly increased after COVID-19 vaccination compared with those before the COVID-19 pandemic, and incidences of MCD have since mainly increased [10]. These findings suggest a potential link between COVID-19 vaccinations and MCD.…”

“…It has also been confirmed that podocyte injury is caused by various circulating cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)-4, 5, 9, 10, and 13, which are released by activated T lymphocytes [3,9]. Recently, a Netherlands registry study showed podocyte-associated punctate polyclonal IgG deposits in MCD after COVID-19 vaccination, so B cell activation may also contribute to the onset of MCD to some degree [10]. Typical clinical and pathologic MCD features were confirmed in our case, which may be due to the potent immune response of the COVID-19 vaccine.…”
