“…Digestive disorders were as rare in our PRM patients (4%) as in other reports (2% by Handley and Stewart, 1952; 2% by Doyle and Livingston, 1953; 1% by Livingston and Petersen, 1956; 5% by Millichap and Aymat, 1968; 3% by Rodin et al, 1976), and occurred with higher PB levels than in children who had no side effects. The 36% incidence de- scribed by Briggs and Tucker (1954) in children receiving PRM alone may due to the abrupt initiation of treatment as described by Timberlake et al (1955) and Painter (1983), but this does not explain the 30% occurrence in adults started with 125 mg PRM daily (Mattson et al, 1985). The AED least tolerated by our patients was phenytoin (PHT), confirming the results of a multicenter study (Beghi et al, 1986).…”

“…Die klinisch bereits in den 50er Jahren häufig beschriebenen Persönlichkeitsveränderungen bzw. expansiven Verhaltensstörungen sind trotz intensiver Recherche kaum empirisch untersucht worden (Smith 1953und 1954, Briggs 1954, Nathan 1954, Livingston 1956.…”

“…(mysoline), which is very widely used, also has a low toxicity. Briggs and Tucker (8) observed one instance of leucocytopenia as a late sequela in the treatment of 22 children suffering from petit mal. Livingston and Petersen (37) observed numerous side-effects but no haematological complications in 486 patients.…”
