Primitive-Based Building Reconstruction by Integration of Lidar Data and Optical Imagery

Abstract: ABSTRACT:Airborne LiDAR data and optical imagery are two datasets used for 3D building reconstruction. In this paper, the complementarities of these two datasets are utilized to perform a primitive-based 3D building reconstruction. The proposed method comprises following steps: (1) recognize primitives from LiDAR point cloud and roughly measure primitives' parameters as initial values, and (2) select primitives' features on the imagery, and (3) optimize primitives' parameters by the constraints of LiDAR point … Show more

“…The underlying mathematics is projective geometry for object-image relationship. Zhang et al [26] proposed a primitive-based building reconstruction method by utilizing airborne lidar data and optical imagery, in which planes in point cloud and corner points in the imagery are extracted to optimize primitive parameters separately. However, what lacking is quantitative evaluation of model accuracy and experiments for large-scale or multiple buildings with different roof types.…”

“…Wang and Zhang proposed a decomposition method to decompose the compound buildings with symmetric roofs into semantic primitives by exploiting local symmetry contained in the building structure (Wang et al, 2015). Zhang proposed a primitive-based building reconstruction method with constraints using LiDAR and optical imagery (Zhang et al, 2011). However, in their approach, they need to recognize primitives in interactive mode and the primitive decomposition is not unique.…”
