PurposeThe purpose of this paper was to understand the difficulties related to asset management observed by experts in Brazilian organizations in light of the requirements outlined in the ISO 55001:2014 standard.Design/methodology/approachA survey was performed with asset management experts. The collected data were analyzed using frequency analysis, hierarchical cluster analysis and fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to deal solution (TOPSIS).FindingsBased on data analysis, the most critical difficulties observed were related to managing and controlling the impact of changes in the company that affect asset management objectives; to the committing to and supporting the asset management system by the top management of the organization; to manage the processes for dealing with risks and opportunities for the asset management system and plans, and correcting failures in asset performance; and to plan and conduct actions in an integrated manner to identify and minimize adverse impacts associated with the asset management system, and afterwards verifying their effectiveness.Originality/valueThe findings of this study have important theoretical and practical contributions, since they indicate the most critical points observed in asset management in Brazil, which can be used as a source for future research and by professionals to prioritize difficulties in future planning and develop action plans to overcome them. The step-by-step methodological approach presented in this study provides professionals and researchers with a replicable method of identifying potential asset management difficulties in a given specific reality.

This study aims to identify significant risks and their relationship to the successful operation of the Trans-Sumatra toll road in Indonesia. The research utilizes the Delphi and DEMATEL methods, along with rough set analysis, to identify and evaluate 28 risks associated with toll road operations in Sumatra. The research identifies 13 dominant risks, including policy changes, government intervention, inflation, financial distress, fluctuation of interest rate, fluctuation of currency, high cost of maintenance, low volume of traffic, competitive routes, overloading vehicles, many infrastructure defects, and natural disasters. In this case, natural disasters, inflation, and vehicles with excessive loads are the most dominant cause factors because those risks have the highest cause value based on the cause-effect diagram. Furthermore, the prominence diagram reveals that income risk, policy changes, and financial distress have notable implications for operational activities. The study presents a MCDM risk assessment approach that incorporates rough set analysis, providing a comprehensive understanding of the critical risk relationship factors for toll road operations. By integrating rough set analysis, this research contributes to the field of toll road operations and risk assessment. Goal: The purpose of this study is to develop a decision support framework to select critical success factors (CSFs) and benefits for the implementation of BIM in the public works sector. Design / Methodology / Approach: The research methodology integrates multiple fuzzy multicriteria decision making (MCDM) approaches to propose a composite framework of CSFs and benefits using qualitative and quantitative approaches, with the application of two semi-structured questionnaires with CSFs and benefits identified in previous studies, through a systematic literature review (SLR). Results: The study identified 42 CSFs and 31 benefits for the implementation of BIM for public works, and the relative importance of the identified factors and benefits was measured according to the four main BIM perspectives: legal, people, process, and technology. The result of the applied MCDMs showed the relationship between the factors and benefits of the four most influential BIM perspectives according to the proposed framework. The most influential CSFs and benefits were: BIM adoption requires individual and group motivation in the organization, Establishment of BIM and Lean construction standards, codes, rules, and regulations, Financial support from the government to establish BIM system, Availability of quality, schedule, and cost information during construction with BIM Accuracy and reliability of documents and data and BIM provides knowledge sharing among stakeholders, Workflow, productivity, and efficiency are affected by the transition to BIM, BIM technology reduces cost and time, Conflict detection, integration, coordination, and design validation, and Creating more efficient projects with stakeholder involvement, coordination, and oversight. Limitations of the investigation: The research sample consisted exclusively of Brazilian professionals and academics with experience in the implementation of BIM in public works. Practical implications: The proposed framework can be applied in implementation in public construction projects that aims to implement BIM considering the selection of critical success factors and benefits. Originality / Value: BIM methodology is widely used in the construction industry. However, there are few studies on CSFs and the benefits of BIM for the public sector, and there still lack of implementation frameworks proposal with empirical evidence.
