Priority-Based Time-Slot Allocation in Wireless Body Area Networks During Medical Emergency Situations: An Evolutionary Game-Theoretic Perspective

Abstract: In critical medical emergency situations, wireless body area network (WBAN) equipped health monitoring systems treat data packets with critical information regarding patients' health in the same way as data packets bearing regular healthcare information. This snag results in a higher average waiting time for the local data processing units (LDPUs) transmitting data packets of higher importance. In this paper, we formulate an algorithm for Priority-based Allocation of Time Slots (PATS) that considers a fitness … Show more

“…The hub or LDPU, in turn, sends the data to remote hospitals or healthcare centers for real-time analysis, prediction, or diagnosis based on the data. WBAN-based remote and ubiquitous healthcare [2]- [5] has proven to be a great success in real-time monitoring of various physiological parameters, such as blood oxygen saturation level, glucose, pH, heart rate, and respiration rate. For prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, such as asthma, diabetes, and cardiac diseases, WBANs are also realized to be highly effective.…”

“…A game-theoretic approach to partial clique enumeration [43] announced its effectiveness, which can avoid extracting the same clique multiple times by casting the problem into a game-theoretic framework. Recently, a constant model hawk-dove game [44] is designed to ensure prioritizing the local data processing units in wireless body area networks during medical emergency situations. Furthermore, game theory has raised attention in many other fields like data mining [45] and knowledge discovery [46].…”

“…The critical data from the patient's body has to be transmitted in a reliable manner without affecting the actual observed body parameters to the medical evaluator [3] [4]. So, in this case, finding the critical data is more important for selecting the patient with abnormalities to detect and diagnose the patient to save their life through e-health [5].…”

“…Sudip misra et al [3] proposed a Priority based Allocation of Time Slots (PATS) algorithm which considers the emergency health data to be transmitted to the LDPU based on the seriousness and urgency. However, the author does not highlight the decision making algorithm for implementation.…”
