Denture-induced stomatitis (DIS) represents a pathological condition caused by ill-fitting dentures trauma, manifested as inflammation of the palatal tissue beneath the denture. The fungal infections are the principal contributory factors to DIS. Although the aetiology of DIS is multifactorial, the Candida albicans fungal infection remains the main cause. The objective of the present systematic review was to evaluate the latest literature on the addition of nystatin into the tissue conditioners (TCs) in the management of DIS. To search the published literature about “the addition of nystatin in TCs for treating DIS”, electronic databases (PubMed (National library of medicine) and Cochrane Library (Wiley)) were searched (from 1975 until December 2020) using different keywords. Various studies described the effectiveness and efficacy of incorporating nystatin into several TCs. The present systematic review reported that the addition of nystatin is beneficial, with slight or no consequences on both the mechanical and physical features of TCs. Adding nystatin to various TCs for treating DIS can be suggested.

Background The development of questionnaires for primary care practice and research is of increasing interest in the literature. In settings where valuable prior knowledge or preliminary data is available, Bayesian factor analysis can be used to incorporate such information when conducting questionnaire construct validation. This protocol outlines a methodological review that will summarize evidence on the current use of Bayesian factor analysis in the primary care literature. Methods A comprehensive search strategy has been developed and will be used to identify relevant literature (research studies in primary care) indexed in MEDLINE, Scopus, EMBASE, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library. The search strategy includes terms and synonyms for Bayesian factor analysis and primary care. The reference lists of relevant articles being identified will be screened to find further relevant studies. At least two reviewers will independently extract data and resolve discrepancies through consensus. Descriptive analyses will summarize the use and reporting of Bayesian factor analysis approaches for validating questionnaires applicable to primary care. Discussion This methodological review will provide a comprehensive overview of the current use and reporting of Bayesian factor analysis in primary care and will provide recommendations for its proper future use. ZusammenfassungDer vorliegende Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über die verschiedenen Arten von Reviews (Übersichtsarbeiten) als Formen der Evidenzsynthese mit besonderem Hinblick auf deren Stärken sowie Limitationen. Reviews können Wissen in aggregierter Form beschreiben und erlauben zusätzlich eine Bewertung der Studienqualität eingeschlossener Arbeiten. Die Aussagekraft bzw. die Vertrauenswürdigkeit der Ergebnisse eines Reviews hängt stark von der Qualität der eingeschlossenen Daten ab, weswegen eine konsequente Auswahlstrategie notwendig ist. Ein Basiswissen zur Literaturbewertung und zu möglichen Verzerrungseffekten ist auch in der Betrachtung von Übersichtsarbeiten notwendig. Zu diesem Zweck werden in diesem Artikel auch ausgewählte Werkzeuge zur Evidenzbewertung und zur Beurteilung des Biasrisikos vorgestellt.
