Against the backdrop of the partially idle resources of conventional railways and the continuous growth of suburban leisure tourism demand, it is required to develop railway tourism by utilizing the disused resources of conventional railways in China. Therefore, restoring, analyzing, and evaluating the visual landscapes seen when travelling on conventional trains are extremely important. The innovation of this study is proposing a dynamic visual landscape interface for disused railways, which establishes a connection between the "seeing" and "perceiving" for passengers and describes the visual landscape they observe. By analyzing dynamic visual factors of passengers and combining DEM data, the temporal-spatial relationship of the visual landscapes along the railway is described as a dynamic visual landscape interface model. Based on this, the study proposes criteria and indicators for analyzing and evaluating the dynamic visual landscapes of railways, using typical landscapes along the Jingmen Railway as an example for evaluation and validation. The research results provide analytical and decision-making tools for repurposing disused railways as tourist railways.

Historic districts may be damaged during urban renewal. Landscape sensitivity can be used as a method to judge the ability of a landscape to resist change. This study proposes an improved method for assessing landscape sensitivity based on a geographic information system (GIS) according to the characteristics of historic districts. Based on a previous method, this study adds POI big data for comprehensive evaluation and uses objective criteria importance through intercriteria correlation (CRITIC) statistics instead of subjective methods to determine the weights. The assessment framework uses ecological, visual, and cultural sensitivity as primary criteria, which are further defined by several sub-criteria. The Beishan Street Historic District in Hangzhou, China, is used as a case study, and the results of the assessment are shown in the form of sensitivity maps. The results show that the maps can identify buildings in areas of high sensitivity and provide objective indicators for future conservation. Based on the sensitivity maps, this study innovatively used correlation analysis to reveal important interrelationships between ecological, visual, and cultural sensitivity. Assessment factors such as land use type need to be prioritized because they are more closely linked to other factors.

This paper aims to present an approach to landscape evaluation, on the example of the island of Jakljan, which is a part of the Elaphiti Islands in the Dubrovnik Neretva County. Special emphasis is placed on the evaluation of natural, cultural, and visual qualities, which were identified in order to direct their protection in future development processes taking into account their role in the landscape. After determining the main qualities, the submodels of individual landscape qualities were determined. Next, the relationship between landscape quality and potential quality degradation was analysed, and a database of spatial data was prepared. Natural qualities included biodiversity valuation and perception of naturalness of the most dominant landscape patterns in this area. Cultural qualities included agricultural landscape evaluation and cultural-historic heritage. Finally, based on the evaluation of the visual units and visually attractive and authentic elements of the landscape and the analysis of visual exposure, a final model of visual landscape qualities was carried out. Evaluation maps were obtained using the GIS tools. The paper pointed out the most important values which must not be lost if the existing character of the space is to be preserved.
