“…The integral in equation 9is a binomial integral type, developed in equation 10, where c 0 and c 1 are the intermediate variables to simplify the expression, with the values shown in equations (11) and 12, respectively. The integral is solved using elementary functions through the variable change c 0 +c 1 a = t s because the binomial integration requirements are fulfilled: 32 n is a fraction and 2(w+1/2)n is an integer…”

“…In this article, we present a new probabilistic fatigue analysis methodology for gas turbine welded structures, which is similar to those reported in the literature, 3,5,7,8 but with several substantial differences. It uses an improved first-order reliability method (FORM) which includes fracture variability to evaluate the component reliability as was done by Madsen et al, 9 Kale and Haftka, 5 and Feng et al, 10,11 and to estimate the crack size distribution after inspection. In this sense, the new methodology is more efficient.…”

“…A probabilistic approach is proposed for the failure risk assessment of a welded ship structure with respect to the fatigue damage caused by multiple site cracks (Feng et al, 2012b, Huang & Sridhar, 2016. The initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks often occur at weld toes while the welded structure is subjected to alternating loading and to account for the interaction of multiple fatigue cracks and inherent uncertainties in the fatigue crack growth process, a probabilistic model for fatigue crack growth is developed based on the Paris relation.…”

“…Several authors report on improved numerical procedures and generalized approaches that can account for sequence effects or multiple site damage in a system reliability framework. Several methodologies were presented in (Feng et al, 2012b, a, Huang et al, 2012, Feng et al, 2014, Huang et al, 2014b, c, Feng et al, 2015, Huang & Sridhar, 2016 based on hotspot calculations from the finite element analyses, where the reliability of the system is modelled as a series of critical hot-spot details.…”

“…The first-order reliability method and the response surface method were used in conjunction with the boundary element method. Feng et al [11] proposed a probabilistic model for multiple crack growth in a stiffened panel in terms of crack sizes. The Monte Carlo simulation was utilized to estimate the partial descriptors of the crack growth model, and the correlation between the crack sizes was considered.…”
