Probiotic Property and Anti-Obesity Effect of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum KC3

Abstract: Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are representative probiotics that have beneficial effects on humans.Nineteen strains among the 167 single strains from kimchi was selected and investigated their physiological features. The selection of a strain was based on strong enzyme (lipase, α-amylase and α-glucosidase) inhibitory activities and anti-obesity effects in the adipocytes. For the final selection, the strain Lactiplantibacillus plantarum KC3 was tested for its potential as a starter. To assess its functionality, a f… Show more

“…Intestinal enzyme activity was observed to increase with age and microbe taxa can regulate it ( Casas et al, 2020 ). L. plantarum K10 could inhibit α-amylase activity, α-glucosidase activity, and lipase activity ( Kim et al, 2018 ). These showed there was a correlation between intestinal flora and enzyme activity.…”

“…L. plantarum KY1032 considerably decreased body weight and total fat mass in treated rats compared to the HFD control group by reducing adipogenic-related key markers in 3T3-L1 cells [ 31 ]. Furthermore, L. plantarum K10 substantially inhibits in 3T3-L1 differentiation and decreases fat mass in mice [ 32 ]. Lactobacillus gasseri BNR17 isolated from breast milk prevents rats fed an HFD from becoming overweight [ 33 ].…”

“…In that, RAMULAB29 and RAMULAB30 strains expressed a higher inhibition exerted by CS as analogous to the study by Son et al [ 78 ] where L. brevis strain expressed a higher inhibitory effect for a cell-free supernatant. Kim et al (2018) [ 79 ] evaluated the L. plantarum strain isolated from homemade kimchi, which had the competence to inhibit both enzymes with an inhibition greater than 95%. Zhong et al [ 80 ] assessed effects of different types of fermentation on their potential inhibitory efficiency against carbohydrate hydrolysis.…”
