Aims: This study aims to comprehensively assess the fisheries resources in the Mirsharai coastal area of Chattogram district, focusing on their contribution to both local and national economies. The research seeks to identify challenges and vulnerabilities, particularly those arising from climate change, impacting pond owners, fish farmers, hatchery owners, and nursery owners in the region. Study Design: The study adopts a cross-sectional design, employing field surveys and interviews to collect data on fish production, and challenges faced by stakeholders. The cross-sectional approach allows for a holistic understanding of the current state of fisheries resources and their interactions with climatic factors. Place and Duration of Study: The research was conducted in Mirsharai, a coastal upazila of Chattogram district, Bangladesh. The study encompasses data collected during the January to December 2016, providing insights into the dynamics of fish production, and challenges faced by fisheries stakeholders in Mirsharai. Methodology: Field surveys were conducted to gather quantitative data on fish production from both capture and culture fisheries. Additionally, interviews with pond owners, fish farmers, hatchery owners, and nursery owners were conducted to qualitatively assess the impact of challenges faced by fisheries stakeholders in Mirsharai on their operations and economic well-being. The combination of quantitative and qualitative methods ensures a comprehensive analysis. Results: The average fish production in capture fisheries was determined to be 63 kg/ha, while culture fisheries, specifically pond aquaculture, yield an average of 1656 kg/ha. The results highlight the significant impact of challenges faced by fisheries stakeholders in Mirsharai on the local fisheries sector, revealing challenges related to market timing, post-larvae availability, and pricing that affect the economic sustainability of stakeholders. Conclusion: The findings underscore the vulnerability of Mirsharai's fisheries to challenges faced by fisheries stakeholders in Mirsharai, emphasizing economic losses for fish farmers, hatchery owners, and nursery owners. The conclusion calls for urgent adaptive measures and climate-resilient strategies in the fisheries sector to ensure sustainability and viability in the face of evolving climatic conditions. Implication: This study has implications for fisheries management and policy development, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to address climate-induced challenges and sustain the economic well-being of fisheries stakeholders in the Mirsharai coastal area.

The search for alternative live feed for aquaculture stocks has inspired research into marine amphipods. In this study, the life history of Ceradocus mizani was evaluated to better understand how this amphipod might be used in aquaculture as an alternative feed. The amphipods did not display copulatory behavior during the study period.The females were multivoltine and attained sexual maturity on average in 23.6 days at a mean length of 4.64 mm. The incubation period lasted 8.8 days, and the mean number of juveniles produced per brood during that incubation period was relatively low (7.58). Females produced a mean of 5.2 consecutive broods and 39.4 total juveniles over the life span. (i.e., 0.33 juveniles/day). Sex ratio was female skewed (1.55:1). Female size and the number of juveniles produced per brood were positively correlated (R 2 = 0.63). The mean life span for females and males was 119.4 and 91.2 days, respectively. Mean maximum length was 9.26 mm for males and 8.18 mm for females. This is the first account of the life history of C. mizani and forms the basis for future studies of this marine amphipod.

A 25-week experiment was undertaken to explore the effect of partial replacement of dietary fishmeal (FM) with black soldier fly meal (Hermetia illucens) (BS), mealworm meal (Tenebrio molitor) (MW), and a 1 : 1 mixture of both insect meals (BSMW) on fillet quality in African catfish (Clarias gariepinus). A total of 96 fish with an average initial body weight of 248 ± 28 g were stocked into a recirculating aquaculture system and fed in four different dietary groups (control, BS, MW, and BSMW). No mortality was recorded in any of the groups. At the end of the feeding period, 24 fish (n = 6 for each treatment, weight between 690 and 822 g) were used for analysis. There was no alteration in filleting yield or other slaughter indices within experimental groups, except the hepatosomatic index. Among quality attributes, pH 24 hr postmortem exhibited a significant difference ( p < 0.05 ). In respect of the fatty acid profile, the n-6/n-3 ratio ranged between 1.17 and 1.40 but was not significantly modified by the partial replacement of FM. Similarly, the proximate composition of the fillets was not significantly different between the control and experimental diet groups. The ratio of polyunsaturated fatty acid to saturated fatty acids ranged between 0.67 and 0.79 in the fillets, without significant differences between groups. The atherogenic index was increased in the BS group, as compared to the others; however, the thrombogenicity index of fillets was not significantly affected. Similarly, the conventional quality traits of the fillet, such as cooking, drip, and thawing losses, did not differ within treatments. This study demonstrates that the dietary inclusion of black soldier fly and/or mealworm meals used for African catfish at the tested inclusion level has negligible impact on fillet properties.
