Proceeding report of the Symposium on Hidradenitis Suppurativa Advances (SHSA)

Abstract: Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) is a chronic debilitating skin condition that impairs the productivity and the quality of patients` lives. HS has recently drawn lots of attention among scholars to further expand their knowledge but it still loads with uncertainties and gaps to be explored. This publication addresses these uncertainties, and provides a road‐map for researchers, scholars and clinicians from different disciplines for their future studies about HS. “…Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic, recurrent, suppurative skin condition. 92 Several options exist to treat hidradenitis suppurativa, including antibiotics, topical bactericidal lotions, corticosteroids, retinoids, and surgery for severely infected cases. 93 When combined with Hyalomatrix, PRP gel displayed efficacy in treating resistant nuchal lesions after surgical excision with excellent safety and no disease recurrences after a 1-year follow-up.…”

“…This concept may well apply to many other dermatoses, whose modulation by hormones has long been appreciated, from acne vulgaris [38,[46][47][48] via seborrhoeic dermatitis to hidradenitis suppurativa. [49,50] This concept is alos in line with newly recognized endocrine abnormalities associated with hidradentitis suppurative/ acne inversa. Gonzaléz-López et al [51] who found that low plasma levels of ghrelin, a predominant stomach-derived hormone, as well as high plasma levels of retinol-binding protein-4, may serve as novel biomarkers for insulin resistance in hidradenitis suppurativa indicating an increased risk.…”

“…Instead, the authors argue, the entire human “endocrinome” must be taken into consideration to fully understand the pathobiology of androgenetic alopecia. This concept may well apply to many other dermatoses, whose modulation by hormones has long been appreciated, from acne vulgaris [38,46–48] via seborrhoeic dermatitis to hidradenitis suppurativa [49,50] .
