Process-centered model engineering

Abstract: A new information system landscape is emerging that will be more model-centered than object-oriented, characterized by many models of low granularity and high abstraction. These models may describe various aspects of a system such as products, structural organization and processes. This latter category may be refined into manufacturing, software and business processes for example. Each of these sub-domains share common concerns such the definition of work items, performers, inputs and outputs, etc. However, as… Show more

“…It offers an object oriented approach using the UML notation. As an OMG proposal, SPEM is integrated in the pyramidal architecture of MDA organization as a MOF metamodel and as a UML profile (Breton and Bézivin, 2001). SPEM takes up a great deal of UML diagrams (packages, use cases, classes, activities, sequences, statechart), excludes some elements (node, component, etc.)…”

“…The process meta-models integration and unification problem is reviewed in [26]. This paper named "ProcessCentered Model Engineering" was written in 2001, however, since this time the problem became even more serious because of the different MOF implementations.…”

“…In addition to these common modelling constructs they integrate domain related concepts, which are specifically dedicated to the needs of expression of the user. With the standardization of meta-meta-model all these meta-models may be described using the same formalism [18].…”

“…The advantage of the embedment of the SPEM within the UML is that UML related concepts are usable for the specification of a process or method defined with SPEM. The structure of processes within SPEM is mainly characterised by three different concepts [38,39]. These are the activity, the role and the work product.…”
