Process Optimization by a Response Surface Methodology for Adsorption of Congo Red Dye onto Exfoliated Graphite-Decorated MnFe2O4 Nanocomposite: The Pivotal Role of Surface Chemistry

Abstract: Natural graphite, a locally available, eco-friendly, and low-cost carbonaceous source, can be easily transformed into exfoliated graphite (EG) with many surface functional groups via a chemical oxidation route. Combination between EG and magnetic MnFe2O4 is a promising strategy to create a hybrid kind of nanocomposite (EG@MnFe2O4) for the efficient adsorptive removal of Congo red (CR) dye from water. Here, we reported the facile synthesis and characterization of chemical bonds of EG@MnFe2O4 using several techn… Show more

“…Table 3 shows that the significant effects on CR degradation rate were in the following order: reaction times > catalyst dosage > temperature. The RSM model can be used for residual analysis (e.g., the model's normality, equal variance, and independence) to evaluate suitability [56]. If the residuals are normally distributed, the points depicting the residuals will resemble a straight line.…”

“…e synthesis procedure was followed as reported previously [26]. A mixture of 0.7 g Fe(NO 3 ) 3 •9H 2 O and 0.25 g•Mn(NO 3 ) 2 •6H 2 O was dissolved in 50 mL H 2 O, and heated up at 90°C under stirring continuously.…”

“…[88] (CC BY-NC 4.0) are more acidic than the respective base, and the ratios of the amounts of the different oxygen-containing FG can then be calculated directly from the base consumption. Boehm titration has been utilized to characterize the FG on different kinds of CNT [106][107][108] as well as on other carbon-based materials like ozone-treated nanodiamonds, carbon NP derived from organic resin, graphite-decorated MnFe 2 O 4 nanocomposites, and natural char nano-and microparticles [109][110][111][112]. To evaluate and standardize Boehm titration regarding accuracy, robustness, repeatability, and precision, Schönherr et al investigated the FG on oxidized multi-walled CNT using different reaction bases, treatment times, and amounts of carbon material [105,113].…”
