Transpiration, an essential component of surface evapotranspiration, is particularly important in the research of surface evapotranspiration in arid areas. The paper explores the spectral information of the arid vegetal evapotranspiration from a semi-empirical perspective by the measured data and the up-scaling method. The paper inverted the transpiration of Haloxylon ammodendron at the canopy, pixel and regional scales in the southern edge of the Gurbantunggut desert in Xinjiang, China. The results are as follows: at the canopy scale, the optimal exponential model of the sap flow rate based on the hyperspectrum is y = 0.0015e 3.8922x , R 2 = 0.806. At the pixel scale, there was a good linear relationship between the sap flow and the SR index, with a relationship of y = -1197.38x 3 ? 1048.43x 2 -305.47x ? 455.15, R 2 = 0.845. At the regional scale, based on the optimal exponential model and the EO-1 Hyperion remote-sensing data, the transpiration of the study area was inverted. Comparing the results of the SEBAL and SEBS models, the errors of the simulation results were 7.78 and 8.80 %. The paper made full use of the knowledge flow at different scales, bridging the scale difference in canopy and remote-sensing images to avoid the information bottleneck in the up-scaling. However, there are many constraints in the data acquirement, the efficiency of the models, the endmembers determination, the temporal-spatial up-scaling, and the accuracy assessment, which would be improved in future studies.

Análise derivativa de dados hiperespectrais medidos em nível de campo e orbital para caracterizar a composição de águas opticamente complexas na Amazônia Conrado M. RUDORFF 1 , Evlyn M. L. M. GALVÃO 1 , Waterloo PEREIRA FILHO 2 RESUMO A técnica de análise derivativa de dados espectrais foi usada para estudar a variação dos constituintes opticamente ativos (COAs) na água, por meio de dados de campo e de imagens do sensor orbital Hyperion/EO-1. A imagem Hyperion usada neste estudo foi adquirida no dia 23 de junho de 2005, no final do período de cheia. Uma campanha de campo foi realizada entre 23 e 29 de junho de 2005, para coletar dados espectrais e limnológicos in situ. A imagem foi pré-processada visando eliminar faixas de pixels anômalos e convertida de valores de radiância para reflectância de superfície, portanto, corrigidos dos efeitos de absorção e espalhamento atmosféricos. Uma análise da correlação foi realizada para examinar a associação da reflectância e de sua primeira derivada espectral com as concentrações dos COAs. Melhores resultados foram obtidos após a diferenciação dos espectros, o que ajudou a reduzir a influência de efeitos indesejáveis, provindos de diferentes fontes de radiância, sobre as medidas de reflectância da superfície da água realizadas em ambos os níveis de aquisição de dados. Por meio de ajustes de regressões empíricas, considerando o conjunto de dados Hyperion, a primeira derivada espectral em 711 nm explicou 86% da variação da concentração de sedimentos inorgânicos em suspensão (mg . l -1 ) e a primeira derivada espectral em 691 nm explicou 73% da variação na concentração da clorofila-a (μg . l -1 ). As relações de regressão foram não-lineares, pois, em geral, as águas que se misturam na planície de inundação Amazônica se tornam opticamente complexas. A técnica de análise derivativa hiperespectral demonstrou potenciais para mapear a composição dessas águas. Eucalyptus, a short-rotation plantation, has been expanding rapidly in southeast China in recent years owing to its short growth cycle and high yield of wood. Effective identification of eucalyptus, therefore, is important for monitoring land use changes and investigating environmental quality. For this article, we used remote sensing images over 15 years (one per year) with a 30-m spatial resolution, including Landsat 5 thematic mapper images, Landsat 7-enhanced thematic mapper images, and HJ 1A/1B images. These data were used to construct a 15-year Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) time series for several cities in Guangdong Province, China. Eucalyptus reference NDVI time series sub-sequences were acquired, including one-year-long and two-year-long growing periods, using invested eucalyptus samples in the study region. In order to compensate for the discontinuity of the NDVI time series that is a consequence of the relatively coarse temporal resolution, we developed an inverted triangle area methodology. Using this methodology, the images were classified on the basis of the matching degree of the NDVI time series and two reference NDVI time series sub-sequences during the growing period of the eucalyptus rotations. Three additional methodologies (Bounding Envelope, City Block, and Standardized Euclidian Distance) were also tested and used as a comparison group. Threshold coefficients for the algorithms were adjusted using commission-omission error criteria. The results show that the triangle area methodology out-performed the other methodologies in classifying eucalyptus plantations. Threshold coefficients and an optimal discriminant function were determined using a mosaic photograph that had been taken by an unmanned aerial vehicle platform. Good stability was found as we performed further validation using multiple-year data from the high-resolution Gaofen Satellite 1 (GF-1) observations of larger regions. Eucalyptus planting dates were also estimated using invested eucalyptus samples and the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of the estimation was 84 days. This novel and reliable method for classifying short-rotation plantations at small scales is the focus of this study.
