The process of welding is extensively employed in diverse industrial sectors for the purpose of material joining. The integrity of components or structures is significantly dependent on the quality and performance of welded joints. Nevertheless, conventional welding techniques present certain restrictions, including reduced welding velocity, substandard joint characteristics, and deformation. Hybrid welding techniques have surfaced as a viable solution in recent times to address the limitations and enhance the joint performance.The present study provides a thorough examination of diverse hybrid welding methodologies, encompassing laser-arc hybrid welding, friction stir welding, and hybrid laser welding. The manuscript examines the operational mechanisms, benefits, and constraints of every method. Moreover, the paper presents findings from recent research studies that have examined the collective efficacy of these methodologies across various materials and contexts.The findings indicate that the utilisation of hybrid welding methods has the potential to enhance joint performance through the improvement of mechanical properties, reduction of defects, and minimization of distortion. The manuscript additionally examines the obstacles and prospective avenues in the realm of hybrid welding. The research presented herein offers significant insights for both researchers and practitioners operating within the welding industry. Specifically, it provides guidance on the selection of optimal welding techniques for applications, as well as the optimisation of welding parameters to enhance joint performance.

This study focuses on enhancing surface protection through microwave-assisted metallic cladding of a Ni-ZrO2 mixture onto SS-304 substrates. Meticulous preparation steps ensured effective deposition: SS-304 underwent thorough cleaning, while the Ni-ZrO2 mixture was preheated to remove moisture. Maintaining uniform distribution was crucial for consistent coating thickness. Microwaves interacted differently with materials, necessitating consideration of material-specific skin depth to avoid direct particle-microwave interaction. Microwave hybrid heating (MHH) with charcoal as a susceptor overcame microwave reflection, facilitating rapid heating of the powder mixture. A pure graphite sheet prevented contamination during MHH. Subsequent irradiation in a multimode microwave applicator for 120 seconds ensured uniform and controlled heating, as illustrated in Figure 1. SEM analysis revealed the distribution and morphology of Ni and ZrO2 particles on the SS-304 surface, indicating effective deposition and adherence. A significant improvement in surface hardness (40.78%) post-cladding was observed. Furthermore, the wear rate and coefficient of friction of the cladded surface were determined to be 0.00124 mm3/m and 0.243, respectively. These findings highlight the promising tribological performance of the Ni-ZrO2 cladded surface, underscoring its potential for applications requiring enhanced surface protection and improved mechanical properties.

Titanium and its alloys, owing to their properties like high strength, toughness, corrosion resistance and thermal stability, are employable in various engineering and medical applications. The properties of titanium alloys depend upon the processing routes and their final microstructure. Therefore, the present review paper compiles the deformation behaviour of various alloys during hot deformation using a physical simulation. Subsequently, the flow stresses are analysed and utilized to develop the processing maps and the constitutive equations that are advantageous for predicting deformation mechanisms during the hot deformation. Specific features reported in the flow stress curves include work hardening, flow softening and steady-state behaviour. In certain cases, the yield point drop and oscillatory behaviour or serrations are also observed. Softening and oscillatory behaviour is an indicator of either dynamic recrystallization or flow-instability, whereas yield discontinuity signifies locking and unlocking of dislocations. In the processing maps, high power dissipation efficiency, η, reveals safe processing conditions, and the η value higher than 40% demonstrates dynamic recrystallization or globularization in the deformed microstructure, whereas the instability domain expresses shear band, flow localization, void formation and wedge cracks in the deformed microstructure. Amongst all the constitutive equations, the Arrhenius-type hyperbolic sine equation is the most suitable for Ti alloys for calculating flow stress and predicting dominant deformation mechanism using activation energy Q and stress exponent n.
