Automotive industrial groups consider the impacts of packaging very important, mainly focusing on the cost effectiveness and environmentally conscious nature thereof. In the literature, the packaging supply chain is not a significantly researched area as regards the supply of the complete automotive engines. But the selection of packaging and the relevant development process in engine production are among the main elements of the extensive automotive industry, because participants sometimes have the same interests and considerations. This way, decision-making and strategies on using different packaging solutions and systems can be very varied. The reason is that each automotive group practically produces its own engines and transports them to their assembling subsidiaries all over the world. These groups often apply similar logistics policies and supply systems to use, take-back and recover their packaging. This is being driven as much by group strategies as it is by the need to reduce costs and increase efficiency in supply chains. The focus of this paper will be on the components and elements of packaging supply chain management in the field of engine supply for automotive industry groups, and on how the decision-making framework is determined. This paper shows models defining the network process for decision-making within the automotive groups as regards the packaging supply chain.

Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS), São Leopoldo, RSResumo: O objetivo deste artigo é analisar os resultados que a implantação de um sistema de informação do tipo MES (Manufacturing Execution System) pode trazer a empresas de manufatura. O método de pesquisa foi o estudo de caso múltiplo. Foram estudadas duas empresas de médio porte (X e Y), com características diferentes de produto e processo, com implantações do MES, durando sete e dez anos. Os resultados apontam que entre 2011 a 2014 ocorreu melhora nas prioridades competitivas custo e entrega para a empresa X e qualidade, custo e entrega para a empresa Y. Os principais resultados observados e que podem ser atribuídos às implantações do MES são: em X, aumento no tempo de máquina operando em 32%, redução do lead time em 47,6% e custos de fabricação em 9,7%; em Y, redução dos rejeitos em 52,6%, custos de fabricação em 8,7% e no lead time em 20%. Abstract:The aim of this paper is to analyze the results that the implementation of an information system type MES (Manufacturing Execution System) can bring to manufacturing companies. The research method was the multiple case study. Two medium-sized companies were studied (X and Y) with different characteristics of product and process, with implementation of MES lasting seven to ten years. The results show that through 2011-2014 there was an improvement in the competitive priorities cost and delivery to company X and quality, cost and delivery to company Y. The main results observed which can be attributed to the MES implementation are: X, increase time machine operating at 32% reduction in 47.6% lead time and manufacturing costs at 9.7%; Y, reduction in waste of 52.6%, manufacturing costs at 8.7% and the lead time by 20%.
