Producing Lightweight Aggregates by Incorporating Waste LCD Glass with Reservoir Sediments

Abstract: This paper reports the application of Taguchi optimization technique in determining process condition for synthetic lightweight aggregates by incorporating waste liquid crystal displays (LCD) glass with reservoir sediments. In the study the waste LCD glass cullet was used as an additive. It was incorporated with reservoir sediments to produce lightweight aggregates. Taguchi method with an L16(45) orthogonal array and five controllable 4-level factors (i.e., cullet content, preheat temperature, preheat time, si… Show more

“…In addition, Fe 2 O 3 could be converted to FeO, which promoted strong auxiliary fusion. The contents of SiO 2 and Al 2 O 3 in the DS were lower than the normal requirements for the calcination of ceramsites, which affected the quality of the ceramsites (Chen et al, 2010;Lu et al, 2013;Tang et al, 2013). The contents of SiO 2 and Al 2 O 3 in the CFA were higher than those in the DS, which effectively complemented the scarce composition of DS, gas composition, and framework support components.…”

“…When the content of SiO2, Al2O3, and Fe2O3 is too low, it will affect the smoothness and strength of the shell of the sintered aggregate; however, when the content is too high, As far as lightweight aggregates are concerned, the main elements that affect its formation of glassy melt are SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , and Fe 2 O 3 . With respect to the composition, when the content of SiO 2 accounts for more than 50% and the total content of Al 2 O 3 and Fe 2 O 3 accounts for around 10-30%, it is possible to produce glass at a high temperature, thus successfully producing lightweight aggregates [14,17,18,47]. Among the sludge components, SiO 2 will affect the viscosity of the vitreous material when the lightweight aggregate is sintered.…”
