Product Development for SOFC and SOE Applications

Abstract: Recently Kerafol's alliance with H.C. Starck and the commercial availability of the jointly developed high - output cells with scandium doped zirconia electrolytes was announced. Together the companies are able to provide cells possessing extraordinary performance and long term stability. The combined production facilities meet the increased demand of SOFC stack and system manufacturers. Currently the installation of test benches for MEA characterization is being prepared for quality assurance as well as for d… Show more

“…A possible way to achieve this target is the use of solid oxide electrochemical cells (SOECs)-based technology, which has been used for the conversion of H 2 O and CO 2 into syngas at high temperatures [7][8][9]. Currently, commercial SOECs are manufactured with the same materials and architecture as solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), simply because of their robustness [10][11][12][13][14]. However, the use of metallic Ni combined with yttria-stabilised zirconia (YSZ) as a fuel electrode (cathode) has an effect on the quality of the outlet gas.…”

“…As a consequence, 2p-orbitals may effectively overlap with 3d-orbitals of transition metal (B, i.e. Cu) and enable the effective charge transport via double exchange mechanism (B-O-B) [68,69]. A significant influence on the transport properties of the perovskite oxides have both, the degree of filling and the difference of energy between anti-bonding g( o * ) and 2g(π o * ) orbitals.…”

“…A significant influence on the transport properties of the perovskite oxides have both, the degree of filling and the difference of energy between anti-bonding g( o * ) and 2g(π o * ) orbitals. The transfer integral Ip-d is proportional to the cosine of the B-O-B angle, and therefore, the most favorable situation occurs when crystal symmetry is cubic (linear bond) [68,69].…”
