This article presents the variability of Fused deposition modelling (FDM) technology and the possibilities of its use in the design and implementation of a prototype atypical device. The assumptions of the behaviour of individual components and subsystems of the design result from an extensive application of the finite element method and motion analysis of subsystems and various parts of the structure. The use of this method to such an extent accelerated the design process and its implementation. The proposal itself reflects the current state of this technology and its focus is on improving sustainable development. As is generally known, great efforts are currently being made to reduce plastic waste volume and its environmental burden. The proposed concept is modified to replace the final treatment of the top layers of the models, called “ironing” by non-planar layering of material. At the same time, it points out the advantages of this method in reducing energy requirements and the time required to produce models. The conclusion is a conceptual design of a printhead for a proposed prototype, designed to use recycled FDM, intending to streamline the possibility of recycling with little serial and piece production. This process thus closes the circle of opportunities published by us, which in the future can contribute to the optimisation of this technology towards increasing the efficiency of resource use, reduction of energy demands and environmental burden.

In the last decade, simulation software as a tool for managing and controlling business processes has received a lot of attention. Many of the new software features allow businesses to achieve better quality results using optimisation, such as genetic algorithms. This article describes the use of modelling and simulation in shipment and sorting processes that are optimised by a genetic algorithm’s involvement. The designed algorithm and simulation model focuses on optimising the duration of shipment processing times and numbers of workers. The commercially available software Tecnomatix Plant Simulation, paired with a genetic algorithm, was used for optimisation, decreasing time durations, and thus selecting the most suitable solution for defined inputs. This method has produced better results in comparison to the classical heuristic methods and, furthermore, is not as time consuming. This article, at its core, describes the algorithm used to determine the optimal number of workers in sorting warehouses with the results of its application. The final part of this article contains an evaluation of this proposal compared to the original methods, and highlights what benefits result from such changes. The major purpose of this research is to determine the number of workers needed to speed up the departure of shipments and optimise the workload of workers.

Simulation in a production process represents the realization of processes in time and space. In manufacturing, the current trend is towards the implementation and expansion of various types of systems in many industrial enterprises. This effort is supported by requirements to increase reliability, eliminate production times and costs, as well as meet operational schedules. The presented article is focused on the possibilities of alternative approaches to the rationalization of production processes using simulation methods. The introduction of this article is devoted to the issue of simulations in general with a brief overview of historical development and classification of simulation tools. The second part of the article describes the tools used for comparative rationalization, which forms the core of the presented article. The conclusion summarizes the findings of the study.
