“…The factors that affect the efficiency of 18 F production from > 18 O]water have been discussed 20 and a new design reported 21 for the water target; an electrostatic tandem accelerator has also been used 22 to make 18 F. For various applications where repeat studies are needed and where radiation dose to patients may be excessive, production of 65 second half-life 17 F has been studied. 23 Two routes, 23 [ 20 Ne(p 11Mev ,a) 17 F] and [ 16 O(d 6Mev ,n) 17 F] have been investigated. The irradiation of magnesium-24 with 12 MeV deutrons gives a good yield 24 of the positron emitter sodium-22, and the bombardment of a natural titanium target with either 13 MeV 25 or 21 MeV 26 deutrons gives an excellent yield of vanadium-48, (traces of scandium-46 are easily removed 25 by ion-exchange chromatography).…”

“…The preparation 23 of methyl fluoride labelled with the 65 second half-life fluorine-17, has been described. The majority of development in radiolabeling molecules with fluorine utilizes the longer-lived nuclide fluorine-18.…”
