“…For organic space holder, carbamide particle size was 2.04mm. Differential Thermal Analysis was carried out on carbamide and revealed its melting temperature was at 132°C, which about similar result found with previous researcher [5]. For sample preparation, aluminium powder was firstly mixed with carbamide in a planetary ball mill (Fritsch Planetary Mono Mill Pulverisette) for two hours (100 RPM).…”

“…The densities increase slightly with increasing compaction pressure and with decreasing salt mass ratio (Fig. 6) [10]. For both routes, the porous structures obtained with very low quantities of aluminium alloy (90.90 and 86.20 wt% NaCl) compacted at lower pressures, resulting densities below 0.29 g/cm 2 after NaCl dissolution, are very weak and are easily broken when handled.…”

“…Giliani et al [6] have showed that failure to achieve appropriate mixing of the two constituents led to NaCl entrapment and local collapse of the metallic network. Bafti and Habibolahzadeh [10] have showed that entrapment of the porogen can also lead to the sample crack during sintering process.…”

“…It is well known that direct gas foaming, powder metallurgy and casting technique are commonly used to fabricate Al foams [2]. Previous work of our group [3] and other researchers [4,5] have shown that the space-holder method, belonging to the powder metallurgy technique, could be applied to well control pore structures; the carbamide used as space-holder materials could be easily eliminated without corrosion of metal matrix. In recent years, the composite foams reinforced by ceramic reinforcements like Al 2 O 3 [6], SiC [7] have been increasingly reported, and these foam materials possess the strengthened cell wall and the enhanced energy absorption capacity.…”
