Production of charmed pseudoscalar mesons in antiproton-proton annihilation

Abstract: We study the production of charmed mesons (D, D s ) in antiproton-proton (pp) annihilation close to the reaction thresholds. The elementary charm production process is described by baryon exchange and in the constituent quark model. Effects of the interactions in the initial and final states are taken into account rigorously. The calculations are performed in close analogy to our earlier study onpp →KK by connecting the processes via SU(4) flavor symmetry. Our predictions for the DD production cross section ar… Show more

“…This is in contrast to the findings forp p →Λ − c Λ + c andp p →D 0 D 0 , where models using simple [16,17] or Reggeized hadron exchange [18,19] find cross sections which are two to three orders of magnitude larger than those from the handbag-type mechanism. The crucial point in these models seems to be the strength of the D ( * ) pY c coupling which is either fixed by SU (4)-flavor symmetry [16][17][18] or by QCD sum rules [19]. In our case this coupling corresponds to the form factors G and S T .…”

“…2, the resultant cross section is estimated to be in the range [1;10] nb (quark model), and [20;30] nb (baryon exchange model), as shown, respectively. The results of these models are based on SU(4) symmetry, which are expected to be only valid for D(D s ) ground states [13]. For excited D or D s states, the situation is more complicated.…”

“…However, the future PANDA experiment [10] will reach a beam momentum resolution ∆p/p of the order of 10 −5 (in the high resolution mode), which is ideally what is needed to perform the challenging measurement of the width of the D * s0 (2317) + and the D s1 (2460) + . A crucial point is of course the amount of luminosity that is needed for such [11,12], baryon exchange [13] or quark model [14], (un)quenched lattice QCD calculations), leading to different conclusions.…”

“…For the planning of these experiments at theP ANDA facility, reliable theoretical estimates of the cross section ofpp →Λ − c Λ + c ,pp →D 0 D 0 and pp → D − D + reactions are of crucial importance [36,37]. In Ref.…”
