Production of L (+) Glutamic Acid in a Fully Membrane-Integrated Hybrid Reactor System: Direct and Continuous Production under Non-Neutralizing Conditions

Abstract: 7Experimental investigations were carried out on continuous and direct production of L-8 glutamic acid in a hybrid reactor system that integrated conventional fermentative production 9 step with downstream membrane-based separation and purification in flat sheet cross flow 10 membrane modules. To ensure constant fermentor capacity, the system was operated at 11 steady state at different set flux values ranging from 76 L m -2 h -1 to 90 L m -2 h -1 at a dilution 12 rate of 0.15 h -1 . Overcoming the substrate-p… Show more

“…Generally, microfiltration and ultrafiltration membranes are used to recycle the mycelia and proteins back to fermenters, Moreover, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis and electrodialysis membrane are adopted in separating GA product instead of the filtration of ion exchange in conventional downstream processes. Vikramachakravarthi et al have used a neutral or charged nanofiltration membrane for the purification of GA and achieved a good result ( Vikramachakravarthi et al, 2014 ).…”

“…However, the genetic stability and production efficiency of production strains are still intrinsic to the industrialization of microbial glutamic acid production. Therefore, it is important to improve the genetic stability and increase the glutamic acid yield of production strains through mutagenic selection for the clean production of glutamic acid and increase the profit of enterprises [2].…”

“… 40 . Against the greatly explored batch or semi-batch processes involving multiple energy-intensive unit operations, the continuous production scheme which promise much higher productivity and higher acid concentration can be considered good alternatives 41 . In this context, the use of the porous liquid as the porous extraction medium, which has the potential to be incorporated in the continuous flow process 42 , is likely to generate versatile platforms for the isolation and purification of amino acid from the fermentation broth.…”
