Abstract:Wastages in the sewing section are very common in garment factory. The sewing workers are engaged in sewing and its associated activities. Beside these, the sewers are provided up to 15% time for allowances due to fatigue, personal needs and machine attention. But sewing operators also spend their time in gossiping, repairing alter, waiting for work and intentionally being idle, which are wastages time. The Standard Minute Value (SMV) is vital in apparel business for target setting, line balancing, man and machine planning. To identify wastages in the sewing section and measure accurate SMV for sewing operations, this work sampling study is carried out in sewing floor. This study is done directly observing 5 sewing operators of collar section by 70 rounds. This study revealed the sewers spend 71.3% time in sewing and its related work and rest of the time in allowances and wastages. This study also calculated SMV of five sewing process. At 95.45% confidence and 5% precision level the measured SMV for c.band hem, c.run stitch, c. top stitch, c.band jnt and c.band t/s are 0.214min, 0.394 mi, 0.379min, 0.503min and 0.319min respectively. The identified wastages and calculated SMV will help the management to take the initiatives to minimize wastage in the sewing section by line balancing, SMV based target setting to the workers and improving supervision.

Blanket factory as a textile industry is one of the manufacturing sectors in Ethiopia; however, the sector productivity is the main issue of the business owners. For the reason of improving the productivity of the sector, factors affecting productivity should be identified and prioritized since improvement is capital intensive measurement. In this research, a FAHP methodology has been developed to prioritize the identified productivity-affecting factors of the blanket factory. Productivity problem is sourced from different factors. However, the concept of productivity-affecting factors has been considered in previous literature, its integration with productivity of the blanket factory and the FAHP methodology has not been studied. For the sake of filling this gap, this research has been conducted using the following main steps: at the beginning, productivity-affecting factors have been identified from previous literature. Then, as there are many productivity-affecting factors in different manufacturing sectors, the list of potential productivity-affecting factors has been investigated to check which factors are most common in the blanket factory. Finally, a FAHP model has been applied to prioritize productivity-affecting factors. According to this model, the result showed that skilled employee and on and off job training, production process line balancing, and better technology and manufacturing system are the most important factors of productivity problem in the blanket factory. Based on the normalized weight, these factors scored 35.92%, 22.94%, and 17.06%, respectively. As the main implications, the research procedure and obtained results using the developed methodology can help industry managers, operation managers and practitioners, business owners, academicians, and researchers to determine productivity-affecting factors so that they can provide possible solutions to the blanket factory.

Authentic Leadership and Societal Transformation: A Review of Literature

The purpose of this paper is to provide a review of the literature on authentic leadership and societal transformation. The paper presents authentic leadership as the key player in the transformation of society. Society has suffered due to many financial and moral scandals, corruption, nepotism, leadership that has no place for followers, and lack of transparency. The paper proposes a new theoretical model to show how the newly discovered constructs interconnect and relate to one another. The methodology employed in this article is the review of extant conceptual, theoretical, and empirical literature to build a case for a theoretical model that links up authentic leadership and societal transformation to cause a change in society. The study identifies five main constructs that positively relate to one another and can provide the required leadership for societal transformation. The five constructs include authentic leadership, trigger events, developmental readiness, core positive psychological resources, and societal transformation. The findings showed that authentic leadership has positive effects on societal transformation. The mediation role of the core positive psychological resources variable is discussed. In addition, the moderating role of developmental readiness is discussed. This study will be important in providing knowledge in regard to the effect of authentic leadership on societal transformation. Finally, the recommendation for future empirical studies is given.
