Prognostic role of C-reactive protein to albumin ratio in cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors: a meta-analysis

Abstract: BackgroundThere are numerous articles investigating whether C-reactive protein to albumin ratio (CAR) is significant for predicting prognosis of cancer cases receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), whereas the results were inconsistent. We thus retrieved the literature and conducted the present meta-analysis for clarifying relation of CAR with survival outcomes among ICI-treated cancer patients.MethodsThrough search against the Web of Science, PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases was carried o… Show more

“…In addition, CAR was introduced as a prognostic indicator of survival in patients with non-small cell lung cancer [54]. Interestingly, a meta-analysis suggested that CAR was useful in predicting outcome after treatment in patients with various types of cancer [55]. Infectious diseases are also characterized with high CAR levels.…”

“…In Kaplan-Meier survival curve analysis, OS and PFS were significantly better in the low-CAR group than in the high-CAR group, which also indicated that CAR could predict patient prognosis. Previous studies have shown that CAR can be used as a prognostic factor to predict the prognosis of patients with pancreatic cancer, gallbladder cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, neck squamous cell carcinoma, and cholangiocarcinoma[ 41 - 43 ]. At present, the mechanism of the effect of CAR on the prognosis of HCC patients is not completely clear, but there are some possible explanations.…”
