Prognostic Role of Tissue and Circulating MicroRNA-200c in Malignant Tumors: a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Abstract: Background: Recently, many studies have shown that microRNAs (miRNA) exhibit altered expression in various cancers and may serve as prognostic biomarkers. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the prognostic role of miR-200c expression in different cancers. Methods: Studies were recruited by searching PubMed, Embase and the Cochrane Library (last search update was May 2014) and assessed by further quality evaluation. Results: A total of 25 studies dealing with various carcinomas were i… Show more

“…Alterations in circulating miRNAs have also been revealed to be informative in each stage of various malignant diseases, such as lung cancer, colorectal cancer and pancreatic cancer [77-79]. As miRNAs would be degraded in the circulation, circulating miRNAs are packed into various membrane-bound vesicles, such as exosomes, microvesicles, and apoptotic bodies, or exist in a vesicle-free form associated with lipoprotein complexes.…”

“…MicroRNAs (miRNAs), P-Element induced wimpy testis (PIWI) - interacting RNA (piRNAs), small interfering RNA (siRNAs) and small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) all belong to small noncoding RNAs [2]. Among these regulatory small ncRNAs, miRNAs have been extensively studied, which can regulate gene expression via binding to the sequence of target mRNAs [3-5], while piRNAs are the newest type and are drawing increasing attention nowadays.…”
